Cat Killed, 2 Dogs Rescued After Scottsdale Attic Fire

The fire was brought under control after crews found flames in the attic of a home near 82nd Street.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Scottsdale firefighters rescued two dogs from an attic fire Tuesday, reviving both animals with pet oxygen masks.

Scottsdale Fire Department crews, assisted by Tempe Fire Medical Rescue, responded to the 2900 block of 82nd Street, where they found flames that had spread into the attic.

Firefighters launched an aggressive attack and brought the fire under control. All human occupants were already out of the home when crews arrived, officials said.

Both dogs survived. One cat died in the fire.

No firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The department used the incident as a reminder for residents to check that smoke alarms are working, practice a home escape plan and make sure pets are included in emergency planning.
