Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:

  1. The city has released July 4 information for residents. Though recycling and trash schedules will not be affected, most city facilities and offices will be closed on Tuesday, July 4. Scottsdale's McDowell Sonoran Preserve will be closed at noon on July 4 to "reduce the threat of wildfire," but it will re-open around 5 a.m. on July 5. Pinnacle Peak Park will be open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. on July 4. Although "use of some consumer fireworks is permitted by state law in Scottsdale this holiday, their use in and near many sensitive desert areas remains illegal and violators are subject to substantial fines." You can get more information about firework safety and restrictions here. (City of Scottsdale)
  2. Looking for more holiday weekend festivities? Consider checking out the "Red, White, and Choo & Choo" event at the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park on Sunday, July 2 from 4 to 9 p.m. Guests can enjoy bounce houses, water slides, foam cannons, family field games, face painting, mechanical bull rides, and unlimited carousel and train rides. There will be food trucks, live music from Marisa Carvo starting at 7:30 p.m., a pie-eating contest for kids and adults, and fireworks at 9 p.m.! Tickets can be purchased online here. (McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park)
  3. Jonathan Roy Jackson, 23, was arrested on Sunday on charges of unlawfully recording a man in the restroom at Fashion Square mall. On two different trips to the restroom, the victim noticed a clear bag on the floor of the stall next to him with "a black object inside" that was pointed at him. The victim confronted the suspect, who apologized, before he punched him and contacted the police. According to court records, Jackson said he "has a 'problem' and records men in the restroom."
