Scottsdale is partnering with Arizona State University to identify strategies for a cooler city. ASU is conducting a series of assessments that will aid in prioritizing programs and policies to provide a better understanding of current risks and vulnerabilities facing Scottsdale, and strategies to address heat challenges.  

In May, the university’s team used a mobile weather station called MaRTy to measure Mean Radiant Temperature (MRT). The station quantifies the heat load on the human body and gauges how someone may experience heat in a few city locations, including Old Town, the Waterfront, the Airpark Promenade and Skysong.

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality has issued a high ozone pollution advisory for Wednesday and Thursday. Those with respiratory sensitivities such as asthma and COPD are advised to use caution between 2-6 p.m. if and when outdoors.  

Mayor declares July 2021 “Phoenix Suns Month” in Scottsdale. The Phoenix Suns are headed to the NBA finals tonight for the first time since 1993 and the third time in their history. “This season, the Suns have helped to increase community spirit and pride as we galvanize around their hard-fought bid to be basketball’s next world champions,” said Mayor David D. Ortega. “I encourage everyone to ‘Rally the Valley’ for our Suns as they battle to bring the trophy home.” Suns have remained a professional sport staple in the Phoenix metro region and have also made an impact in the community with their philanthropy off the court. Read the proclamation here. 

Back to School program needs your donations. Many students heading back to school in the fall need new clothing, socks, underwear, shoes, backpacks and school supplies. Learn how you can donate these items or money.
