Here are the top three stories in Scottsdale today:

  1. Scottsdale deputy fire chief Jim Ford was recently awarded the James M. Shannon Advocacy Medal by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). This award is given to fire and life safety advocates who help reduce losses from fire, electrical, and other hazards. The NFPA recognized Deputy Chief Ford for his "significant contributions" in this area. (Daily Independent)
  2. On Jun. 15, Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West announced a brand-new educational exhibit kiosk called "Observing With NASA" (OWN), which is on loan from the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory through Aug. 31. According to a press release, the kiosk offers six activities for the whole family that will engage visitors in "the art and science of NASA imagery." Many of the activities were created around NASA data and include games, puzzles, and other creative projects. Visit scottsdalemuseumwest.org to learn more about OWN and to plan your visit. (Daily Independent)
  3. A special Scottsdale edition of Hasbro's classic board game, Monopoly, will be hitting store shelves early next year. Game and puzzle manufacturer Top Trumps USA has licensed the name from Hasbro to create "Scottsdale Monopoly," a customized version that features local landmarks and tourist destinations that Valley residents are sure to recognize. "Scottsdale has an incredibly unique identity as 'The West's Most Western Town,'" said Top Trumps USA representative Katie Hubbard, who cited the city's bustling nightlife, legendary art galleries, and booming tourism industry as reasons that Scottsdale is getting its own Monopoly edition. The game is expected to debut in January 2023 in retail stores like CVS and online through Amazon and other retailers. (Arizona's Family)
