Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:

  1. A 70-year-old man with dementia went missing from his north Scottsdale home for a few hours on June 12. An officer with Scottsdale Police Department's Patrol Drone Program "self-reported to the scene on the way home from his shift to help out." Using a drone "equipped with advanced imaging" for nighttime viewing, the man was located within minutes and carried by officers over 100 yards via a stretcher before being safely reunited with his family. Thank you, SPD! (12news.com KPNX, Scottsdale Police Department via Facebook)
  2. Speaking of SPD, police are searching for suspects involved in an ATM bank robbery at Wells Fargo near North Scottsdale and Thunderbird roads around noon on Thursday. A witness called the police and captured a cell phone video of the suspects running away and getting into a car. Check out the video at the link and call the Scottsdale Police Department non-emergency line at 480-312-5000 if you have any information. (12news.com)
  3. Scottsdale has been awarded the Bloomberg Philanthropies What Works Cities Certification at the Gold Level "for exceptional use of data to inform policy decisions, allocate funding, improve services, evaluate program effectiveness, and engage residents." Recent accomplishments that aided the city in achieving this award for excellence in data-driven local government include the Short-term Rental Resource Center, the residential water rebate program, and the launch of Speak up Scottsdale. Mayor David D. Ortega explained that "this award recognizes our commitment to maximize valuable data to benefit everyone." Congrats, Scottsdale! (City of Scottsdale)
