🌱 Foodies Take Note + SCC And Apple + Salary Gap At Sky Harbor

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Scottsdale.

(Patch Media)

Happy Thursday, neighbors!

I want to call your attention to the 'From my notebook' section of today's Scottsdale Daily Digest (SDD). Besides a subtle name change from Scottsdale Notebook, it is leaner and hopefully more to the point. Our goal at SDD is to make your information gathering as easy as possible. Therefore, the one or two lines that make up the post should answer the question: "do I need to click on the link, or do I have enough?"

Sometimes in the case of a post like the one for the 80th National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day program, there's a bit more to ensure you get what you need — check out 'From my notebook'!

So, here's what we think you need to know to get going today.

First, today's weather:

It will be another day over 80 in November, perhaps record-setting! The high temperature will be 82, and the low, 54.

Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:

  1. Check out "All the news that's fit to nosh" in the Phoenix Magazine. Several Scottsdale eateries are in the foodie news, including Salad and Go, Hash Kitchen, and LDV Winery. The news at Hash Kitchen, as an example, includes a new $200k investment from the Savory Restaurant Fund and a mouth-watering description of "birria hash — slow-braised chile beef with hash potatoes, taco shells, onion, mozzarella, cilantro, fried egg and birria sauce." (Phoenix Magazine)
  2. Scottsdale Community College (SCC) and Apple will collaborate to create a class for interested students to develop apps for the Apple operating system. The SpringThe Spring 2022 semester course could produce the next killer app! According to reporting by AZ Big Media, "The 'Everyone Can Code' curriculum developed by Apple is designed to give students with creative problem-solving skills the knowledge they need to bring an exciting new app to market," or generally further their techno-career path. (AZ Big Media)
  3. Neither the union, Unite Here Local 11, nor the employer, HMSHost, denied significant pay discrepancies, by race, between baristas at Sky Harbor Airport. Instead, according to reporting by Phoenix New Times, the two parties blame each other. Unite Here Local 11 claims racial discrimination against workers of color. HMS claims that "the union enshrined such racial disparity when it signed a collective bargaining agreement where wages depended on tenure." (Phoenix New Times)
