Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:
- The Alli Ortega Empty Bowls Fundraiser benefiting Scottsdale Human Services and Scottsdale Community Partners "raised $40,875 from bowl sales, an online auction, donors and corporate sponsorships!" The event, part of the Scottsdale Family ArtsFest at SkySong, is named after Mayor David Ortega's late daughter, an art teacher who passionately participated in the event for several years. The Ortega family donated several of Alli's bowls to the fundraiser throughout the years, which are showcased alongside hundreds of bowls made by community artists and SUSD students. Proceeds from the event help "hundreds of Scottsdale families and seniors receive food, school supplies, healthy lunches, necessary supplies, and assistance through City of Scottsdale Human Services." (scottsdale.org)
- Three Scottsdale women from 100+ Women Who Care Valley of the Sun participated in the presentation of a $18,400 check to Whispering Hope Ranch Foundation, a ranch in Payson designed to host children with special needs or in out-of-home/foster care. The 45-acre ranch features wheelchair swings, aquatic wheelchairs, adapted saddles with wheelchair mounting ramps, and special resident animals rescued from poor treatment or with physical anomalies or injuries. Scottsdale residents Libby Murphy, Bailey Lloyd and Jacqueline Destremps are part of the 100+ Women Who Care Valley of the Sun in Scottsdale, a group that meets quarterly to contribute a $100 donation per member and select a recipient of the collective donation. For those interested, "the next giving circle" will be at 6:30 p.m. on April 26 at HomeSmart Corporation Office, 8388 E Hartford Drive, Ste 100. Visit 100wwcvalleyofthesun.org to register and learn more. (scottsdale.org)
- NICU Bingo Night & Pop-Up Boutiques, a special event scheduled for May 3, will raise money for the HonorHealth Shea Scottsdale Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Funds raised from this event will purchase chairs, monitors, breastmilk trackers, quick screens and other equipment for the NICU. In the Brady Conference Center at HonorHealth Shea, guests can enjoy "light appetizers, desserts and adult beverages and unique shopping - all for a great cause!" Pop-Up Boutiques will be open for shopping from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by bingo from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Find out more information and register at HonorHealth Foundation. (Fox10 Phoenix)
