Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:

  1. As we head into Memorial Day weekend, I would like to take a moment to personally thank our veterans, our active-duty service members, and the families of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. There are several ways to honor our fallen heroes this Memorial Day. The Memorial Day Commemoration will take place at 10 a.m. at Scottsdale City Hall's Memorial Lawn, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd. There will be a Memorial Day Ride, starting at Harley-Davidson of Scottsdale, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. There will also be a wreath laying at 9 a.m. at the USS Arizona Memorial Gardens at Salt River. Check out the link for more opportunities around the Valley. (12News)
  2. Lesa Sawyer founded Giving Bracelets, which has a store at 7122 E. 5th Ave., and her business is giving back to a Scottsdale nonprofit. After noticing how much leather was discarded while running a small handbag business, Lesa put the scraps to good use by creating personalized wrist accessories. This idea transformed into Giving Bracelets, which donates 10 percent of each purchase to Voices for CASA Children. Voices for CASA Children "specializes in pairing Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers with children who have been removed from their homes through no fault of their own." Way to go, Lesa! 3. Have you heard of Scottsdale Video Network? You can check out this live stream video network highlighting Scottsdale on the city's website, on YouTube, or on Cox channel 11. Some public meetings are streamed live on the YouTube channel. The city recently released the June program guide, which gives you an idea of the sorts of things you can tune into. This includes "Living with Urban Wildlife" with tips on how to "reduce human-wildlife contacts," discussions on short-term rental laws and tools with "Scottsdale 360 | Short Term Rentals," and stories highlighting the accomplishments of Arizona veterans with "Veterans AZ." Check out the full lineup at the link! (City of Scottsdale)
