Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:
- You may recall from last Friday's newsletter that members of the Scottsdale City Council and Mayor David D. Ortega officially requested that Gov. Katie Hobbs veto House Bill 2441. Well, she did! Hobbs vetoed HB 2441, stating that she prefers HB 2561. HB 2561 is awaiting vote and "calls for the creation of a 'standpipe district' that would be the middle entity" between Scottsdale and Rio Verde Foothills. (East Valley Tribune)
- Scottsdale ranks as No. 2 in the nation "for cities with the most Airbnb listings" and for having "the most expensive Airbnb rates." Scottsdale currently has a total of 3,497 active Airbnb listings, and the "average nightly rate for all property types" is $394. Oxnard, California, took the No. 1 spot with an average nightly rate of $488. Glendale is at No. 12 followed by Phoenix at No. 13. (Arizona Big Media)
- June Days in Old Town is around the corner! The tradition began as "a fun concept to kick off summer before the heat really sets in," but it has transformed into a "celebration of all the things that make this area so unique." The monthlong celebration includes daily events and activities like live performances, art exhibits, crafting workshops, wine tastings, family-oriented events, and local discounts. You can check out all of the offerings at OldTownScottsdaleAZ.com/JuneDays. (City of Scottsdale)
- ADOT is piloting a new technology at the Scottsdale Motor Vehicle Division office. The Tap2ID technology can be used to check in online at the MVD, and to transfer car titles, using "a digital driver's license stored on a mobile device or a QR code." (The Business Journals)
