Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:

  1. Stephanie Heitmeyer is the mother of accomplished cyclist, Jennifer. According to KPNX reporting, Heitmeyer's search for the two women who risked their lives to save her daughter after Jennifer was struck by a hit-and-run driver near Scottsdale Road and McCormick Parkway has been partially successful. One of the good Samaritans has been found, and the search for the second is ongoing. Jennifer's injuries were severe, and she continues to recover. However, the driver is still at large. 2. The Urban Exchange clothing store, near Scottsdale Road and Bell, was struck by pepper spray-wielding thieves. According to ABC 15 reporting, the daytime attack resulted in a $25K haul for the bag snatchers. Sprayed by one of the two robbers, owner Robbi Elder said, "I [was] terrified because I did not know what was going on and I could not see." As a result, shoppers today will need to call from the locked door and enter one at a time. (ABC15 Arizona)
  3. The Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts will host Mayor David D. Ortega's "State of Scottsdale" address from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18. The free event requires attendees to register online by 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14. The city press release quoted the mayor, "I know that Scottsdale is at its best when the citizens are heard, when development is done responsibly, and when families and businesses can thrive." In addition, the release reported that the address would include the mayor's vision for the city and a list of successes and soon-to-be-faced challenges. (Patch)
