- According to Patch reporting," the funeral services for Najib 'Jubi' Monsif, whose remains were found at a canal pump station in Mesa last week, are set for this weekend." Monsif's sister, Josie Monsif, posted the plans on Facebook. Visiting hours are 4-7 p.m. Friday at Messinger Mortuary Pinnacle Peak; the funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church; and the burial will occur at Paradise Memorial Gardens following Saturday's funeral. Josie added this personal message of thanks to the countless followers, searchers, and supporters throughout this ordeal. "You have all invested your love in Jubi, and my parents know you'd want the opportunity to pay your respects... As always, thank you for everything." (Scottsdale Patch)
- While COVID-19 cases are up across the country, Maricopa County has seen a slight drop in cases since the beginning of December. Caitlin Siever of Patch reported that the positive test rate saw a two-percentage point drop compared to the last week in November. Cases dropped 5.2 percent for the same comparative period. The report included CDC vaccination rates for Maricopa County as of Dec. 12, they are 5-9 percentage points below U.S. rates for all age categories. (Scottsdale Patch)
- According to Maricopa County Attorney's press release, violent crimes such as murder and assault are up over last year while property crime has decreased. According to the report, scams were on the rise, reaching a three-year high. Drug use and overdoses are also on the rise in Arizona, up 45 percent since 2019.
