Get on up, Scottsdale! Let's get you started this Wednesday with everything you need to know.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny and pleasant. High: 70 Low: 48.

Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:

  1. Scottsdale Community College's new incentive program, to launch this spring, adds frontline health care advocates to COVID-19 patient care. According to KJZZ reporting, "Ten students entering the new Community Health Worker program will have a chance at a $1,000 scholarship funded by the Mercy Care not-for-profit Medicaid managed-care health plan." Melanie Burm, SCC's director of External Affairs, noted that the frontline positions link various other health care providers for a particular patient. "[The advocates] know their populations, and so they play a pivotal part in that the community member is understood and their needs are met and in a way that's culturally appropriate," Burm said. (KJZZ)
  2. An 18-year-old area student allegedly threatened Horizon High School, according to KPNX reporting. A short video from early November is said to offer proof of the planning. "The student additionally tells the other person they intend to get an AK-47 from a friend whose parents allegedly own firearms, court records show," according to the piece. The alleged perpetrator is in police custody. (12news.com KPNX)
  3. The 2021 Martin Pear Jewish Community Center gala was held Saturday night. According to the Jewish News of Greater Phoenix, the event honored Neal Kurn, the William S. Levine Family Community Excellence Award recipient, and Lindsey Seitchik, the Maya Schulder Rising Star Award winner. The crowd of more than 450 was required to produce negative COVID-19 tests or proof of vaccination. The annual event was not held last year. (Jewish News of Greater Phoenix)
