Welcome to the Scottsdale Daily! Here's your go-to for all things going on in the area.

(Patch Media)

Good Friday morning fellow Scottsdalians! Your Patch Scottsdale Daily is changing it up a bit — I will still be providing the news and information you need and have come to expect. And now you will get in from Monday through Friday each week. The Monday edition will get you caught up from the weekend and ready for the workweek, and the Friday issue (that's today!) will include all you need to know about activities and events for your weekend. Your feedback is essential — I'd love to hear what you think of the change; please send your comments and questions to geoffc160@gmail.com. Welcome to the weekend!

First, today's weather:

It will be warm and sunny today with a high of 90 and a low of 58! Enjoy!

Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:

  1. Paul Keeler, a Scottsdale restaurateur passed away earlier this month. In a recent announcement of his memorial service, "Keeler Hospitality Group is heartbroken to announce the passing of their founder and CEO, Paul Keeler. Paul was a beloved restaurateur with deep roots in the Cave Creek/Carefree and Scottsdale communities. His impact on his team members and guests will be treasured for a lifetime to come." This, according to reporting in the Focus Foothills, Keeler's group owns Liberty Station and Market Street Kitchen in Scottsdale; his sons will take over the group. Services are on Nov. 8 at Highland's Church in Scottsdale. According to the report, Paul died because of complications associated with COVID-19. (Foothills Focus)
  2. Scottsdale physician Dr. Steve Fanto will pay over $400,000 as a result of a settlement with Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich. Fanto is alleged to have accepted at least $250,000 in gifts from Fentanyl producer, Insys, according to reporting in PinalCentral news. While Fanto denies the claims, according to the report, the settlement requires that he accept no drug company-generated gifts, outside of meals, under an annual total of $300. (PinalCentral)
  3. How does he do it? This year's Canal Convergence, set to run from Nov. 5-14, will feature an art installation by artist Sam Okerstrom-Lang (Samo). According to a report in the Daily Independent, "MASARY [Studios, Samo's home studio], has been commissioned to create a large-scale, interactive installation titled 'Say What You Will.' The piece transforms your voice into video and light, projecting the expressions onto six massive sails bending across the Arizona Canal." The highly interactive installation will collect submissions at six kiosks along the canal. Reportedly, this installation will represent a return to Convergence for Samo. Learn more about who Samo is in the Q&A. (Your Valley)
