Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:
- "In June, we got a notice that we had to be out by Aug. 31, and we couldn't find anything in the time span, and we ended up here," said Jordan Barclay. Barclay and her mom live at the Extended Stay Hotel in Scottsdale. Their monthly cost is greater than the rental home they were forced to give up. The first and last month's deposit prevents them from renting right now. According to ABC 15's Mark Stapp, Fred E. Taylor, professor of real estate at the W.P. Carey School of Business Arizona State University, describes the mother-daughter pair as part of the 'working poor.' "These are people who actually have a job, but the cost of living for them exceeds what they're able to afford," Stapp said. (ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix)
- A Scottsdale sushi restaurant is attempting to do good. According to Fox 10,
Sushi Roku intends to donate 10 percent of its March 9 proceeds to the World Central Kitchen, providing food to Ukrainian refugees. (FOX 10) - Art on the Boardwalk, a Sundance Creek Promotions effort, will come to Scottsdale's Talking Stick entertainment district, April 8-10, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. According to Daily Independent reporting, there is something for everyone at "the spring-themed event," and it will feature: "local and regional artisans exhibiting fine arts, crafts, home décor, and specialty gift items." Live musical acts and lots of food make this event. (Daily Independent — Subscribe)
