Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:
- Silverleaf Arcadia residents in north Scottsdale have filed a restraining order against DC Ranch Home Owners' Association. Why? The HOA wants to remove the Sissoo trees in the neighborhood and charge each resident $3,000 for doing so; however, the homeowners cite that "the trees were part of the original development plan when it was built more than 20 years ago, and the HOA failed to maintain the trees." Sissoo trees have a reputation of "damaging roads [and] underground pipes," but residents appreciate the shade provided to homes, parks, and roads by the hundreds of Sissoo trees in the neighborhood. The restraining order "mandates that the HOA can't remove any other Sissoo trees unless homeowners agree to it." (12news.com KPNX)
- The SUSD Class of 2023 will graduate tomorrow. The senior class sizes are as follows: "170 at Coronado High; 325 at Saguaro High; 448 at Desert Mountain High; 471 at Arcadia High; [and] 578 at Chaparral High." Desert Mountain, Arcadia, and Coronado will have 2023 valedictorians. Beginning with the Class of 2025, all SUSD high schools will move to the Latin honor system of summa cum laude, magna cum laude, and cum laude honors. Congrats to all of the soon-to-be graduates! (East Valley Tribune)
- You may have heard that BuyBuyBABY is closing, but did you know that this includes the store in Scottsdale at 10080 N. 90th St.? Purchases made prior to April 26 of this year "can be exchanged or returned" through May 24, so keep that in mind if you've been meaning to make a return. The chain store, which sells items for infants and young children, is "owned by retailer Bed Bath & Beyond, which has filed for bankruptcy." Consider stopping by to say bye bye and check out some seriously discounted items before it is too late! (NewsBreak)
