School Security Roles Open In Scottsdale Ahead Of Back-To-School: How To Apply

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Scottsdale Unified School District is looking to add security officers across its campuses as the district prepares for the upcoming school year.

Applications are open through Aug. 15 for security officer positions that pay $18.93 to $19.69 an hour. The roles are designed to provide a visible safety presence on school grounds while helping protect students, staff and visitors.

Security officers patrol campuses by foot, vehicle or bicycle before, during and after school hours, as well as during extracurricular activities. Their duties include monitoring entrances, checking identification, reviewing security cameras and reporting unauthorized visitors to school offices.

The job also includes helping manage daily campus operations, such as directing traffic and parking, monitoring student arrivals, escorting students when needed and assisting with crowd control during events.

Officers are responsible for securing school buildings, checking for damage or suspicious items, responding to emergencies and assisting with situations such as fights, injuries, alarms, fire drills and lockdowns. Some employees may also provide first aid or CPR assistance after receiving required training.

The position requires physical activity, including standing, walking, running and lifting. The district said officers may spend up to half their shift outdoors, including during extreme heat with temperatures that can reach between 100 and 120 degrees.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, a valid Arizona driver's license and the ability to complete first aid and CPR certifications within 30 days of hire. Candidates must also pass a fingerprint and criminal background check and have a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Security officers may be assigned to different campuses depending on district needs and could work a variety of schedules, including split shifts, evenings, nights and weekends.
