Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:
- On Saturday night, two people were shot in an apartment building at 68th Street and McDowell in Scottsdale. Reporting on Fox 10 did not identify the victims or their assailant(s). According to the report, the two shooting victims were taken to the hospital, and they are expected to survive. (FOX 10 News Phoenix)
- Cancelations and delays at Sky Harbor have continued into the new year. According to an ABC15 report, 2,600 flights were canceled across the country on Saturday. Weather and a continuing staff shortage are the reported causes for the ongoing troubles. One reported tip when you are struggling to reschedule or learn more about your flight, call your airline's international phone center instead of the U.S. one; even for in-country flights, you may get through more quickly. (ABC15)
- COVID-19 testing is up across the valley. As reported on Fox 10, lab Saguaro Bloom's founder, Dr. Jesse Greer, said, "We were very, very busy a month ago, and right now we're probably 50 percent above that." The increase in testing is attributed to the rise of Omicron. Dr. Sam Durrani said, "The good news about Omicron spreading so fast is that potentially we get to the population level of herd immunity faster, so the disease becomes endemic...if you really want to protect yourself, get a KN95 or an N95 if you're going out in public [and] avoid public gatherings for the next few months...."
