Scottsdale Conducting Second Virtual Meeting On Bikeway Study
Until March 18, residents have a chance to learn more about the updated 70th Street Neighborhood Bikeway plans, and offer their input.
SCOTTSDALE, AZ —From now until March 18, the Scottsdale Transportation department will be hosting a virtual meeting about the city's ongoing study of plans for a neighborhood bikeway for the 70th Street corridor, the city has announced.
On the City of Scottsdale website, residents have a chance to watch a presentation with updated concepts for the project, some based on previous resident feedback. There also are materials related to the project to review and a place for additional public comments.
The bikeway project focuses on 70th Street between Continental Drive/Roosevelt Street to the south and 2nd street to the north. The approximately 2.5-mile stretch would connect the Tempe/Scottsdale border to Old Town Scottsdale.

The Bikeway Study project began in late 2019, and Scottsdale Transportation conducted its first virtual meeting this past fall, which was designed to gather public feedback. The current phase will focus on analyzing that feedback.
The bikeway study includes an examination of bike-friendly concepts like: sharrows, markings on the road requiring cars to slow because of bike traffic, traffic-calming speed cushions and dedicated bike lanes.

According to Scottsdale Transportation, the study also prioritizes cyclist comfort and will address issues like: bicycling gaps, lack of route signs and wayfinding, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility and utility, draining and flooding challenges.
The design study, according to Scottsdale Transportation, is funded through the Maricopa Association of Government (MAG) Design Assistance Program. A potential funding source for the project is an 0.2-percent transportation sales tax. The city also can apply for federal funding for this type of project.
