Here are the top 3 stories today in Scottsdale:

  1. Guaranteed geographical representation on Scottsdale's City Council is not in the city's near future. According to AZ Central reporting, the Council struck down a motion to create districts. The Mayor is a proponent of a district system to ensure local leaders come from all over the city, but he couldn't find City Council support. Councilmember Solange Whitehead said, "Having the ability to vote for every single council person is representative, and I also think that a person's residence doesn't define whether or not they are representing a person in another neighborhood." (AZCentral.com)
  2. Save water and money or keep up with the Jones' lush lawn. Fined because she replaced her winter rye with artificial grass, a state representative is stepping in, in hopes of preventing this from happening to others. Sherry Lund said, "I'm trying to save water. We are in a drought situation in Arizona...we are saving $1,100 dollars a month in water bills my house alone." According to AZ Family Reporting, Republican Representative John Kavanagh responded to Lind's "turf war" with House Bill 2131. The bill stops HOAs from eliminating artificial grass as a landscaping option. (Arizona's Family)
  3. The Arizona School Boards (ASBA) association is leaving its national counterpart because of inflammatory language used to describe parents' behavior at some board meetings, according to KTAR. ASBA Executive Director Sheila Harrison stated in a letter to the National School Board Association, "While we continue to believe that there is value in a national association of school boards, our primary obligation is to advocate for Arizona's students to have strong, quality public schools...we are unable to do that if we are continuously called to account for the actions of NSBA."
