Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:
- Referred to as a 'street takeover,' groups of cars pull up and stop, revving engines and blocking traffic. The one that took place on Sunday night at 68th and Camelback included gunfire and led Scottsdale Mayor David Ortega to state that this behavior cannot be tolerated, according to ABC 15. "I do appreciate that the police department reacted quickly, and I know that we're going to continue to pursue this, and the City Council as well will take every measure necessary to address this problem," Ortega said. Later the same group appeared in Glendale. (ABC15 Arizona)
- Celebration Vacations program is happening now at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. According to FabulousArizona.com, "Celebration Concierges [can] craft a truly knock-their-socks-off experience... [including] custom fireworks, hot air balloon rides, rare wine or bourbon tastings with an expert, couple's spa retreats and helicopter and Jeep tours." Tap on the resource to see the whole list of ways to enhance a stay. (fabulousarizona.com)
- The Arizona State Senate is considering a bill to stop electronic speed enforcement like the photosystem used in Paradise Valley. Earlier this month, Vice Mayor Anna Thomasson and Paradise Valley Police Commander Freeman Carney, with the town's lobbyist Doug Cole, went to the statehouse to testify against the bill. According to Your Valley reporting, "Paradise Valley has six town intersections with fixed photo radar locations, covering 12 intersections approaches." The bill ends stop-light photo radar except in school zones and would reduce revenues to the town. The town contends that the cameras are training pass-through drivers to drive more safely in Paradise Valley. The debate continues. (Subscription Needed/ Your Valley)
