Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:

  1. Scottsdale Police Department Sgt. Kevin Quon famously captured Sam Ryder's ace on 16 at the recently played Phoenix Open. According to the AZ Family report, the now-viral video was part of a livestream that Quon was filming for the department. Reportedly the first hole-in-one in 7 years at the Open, Quon said, "To be able to capture it, it was like, what are the odds, what are the odds going live for the whatever minute and a half before and to me it's just, it's an incredible thing," (Arizona's Family)
  2. A 12 News investigation has uncovered that Stephanie Marie Davis, grandmother of now deceased 11-year-old Chaskah Davis Smith, had a "history with law enforcement" and may not have been the boy's legal guardian. The report raises questions about whether or not authorities in two states did enough to investigate reports of abuse. In addition, the report calls into question Davis' custody rights and highlights an outstanding arrest warrant from 2016. Davis and her husband Thomas Desharnais were arrested after SPD found 11-year-old Chaskah Davis Smith near death in a Scottsdale hotel. Chaskah died at the hospital. (12news.com KPNX)
  3. Jackie Johnson is Scottsdale's new diversity program director. Leading the City's DEI efforts toward better integration with the city's mission, she previously worked at Sun Valle School District in a similar role. According to a City press release, "Jackie has extensive experience and a proven track record of successfully engaging underrepresented populations and communities," said Scottsdale Mayor David D. Ortega. "I am pleased that Jackie Johnson will champion Scottsdale's diversity programs and initiatives." (Press Release Desk)
