- Starbucks at the Scottsdale Road and Mayo Boulevard saw its employees rally to unionize on Saturday. It's one of more than 100 shops nationwide calling for union elections, A Starbucks in Mesa has been successful, according to KJZZ. Callie Daly, a barista at the Scottsdale and Mayo location, said, "In order to keep my college benefits through Starbucks, for ASU, I have to maintain at least 20 hours a week, and that's recently been cut to 16 or lower, and I had to really fight to get back to that [20 hr.] baseline." The store's union election is expected to take place in mid-April. (KJZZ)
- The Heard Museum will host the World Championship Hoop Dance Contest Saturday, March 26, and Sunday, March 27. Hoop dancers from The U.S. and Canada attempt to win the title and cash prizes during the two-day competition. According to KTAR, "Hoop dancing is an art form that honors Indigenous traditions in the U.S. and Canada [with] roots in healing ceremonies and practices. The event starts at 9 a.m. on both days. - Patch reports that according to the Eat This, Not That website, the fried chicken poblano at Macayo's in Mesa has the potential to provide way too many calories and too much fat for a healthy diet. The "Unhealthiest Menu Item in the state" dish is also available at the Scottsdale shop! Patch noted that The Eat this not That site used a Phoenix New Times report to call out "Macayo's over-the-top dishes, many with 3,000 calories per plate." (Patch)
