One thousand readers! Thank you fellow Scottsdalians and happy Thursday. Last week's reader stats are in and you are supporting Scottsdale Patch and your Scottsdale Daily Digest in record numbers. If you or someone you know wants to share events, products, or services with the growing readership then please let me know. So now, let's get today off on an informed note.
First, today's weather:
Today's high will be 85 and the low 55 with plenty of sunshine.
Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:
- The Post Office and most local and federal government offices will be closed today. So why not take the opportunity to join Scottsdale's Veterans Day Commemoration at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, beginning at 3 p.m.? According to Patch reporting, "The program will begin with 30 minutes of patriotic music from the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Arizona Band [and] the keynote speaker will be Nikki Stratton." Her grandfather, Donald Stratton, survived the sinking of the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor 80 years ago. Nikki will serve as the sponsor of the newest USS Arizona, an attack sub. According to the report, Stratton is worried that the sacrifice of the fallen is fading further into the background. She will join James Fawbush, a U.S. Army veteran who works with the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Health Care System in Phoenix, in speaking about the sacrifice that Seaman First Class Donald Stratton, and others made and continue to make. - Profits are blowing away for wind turbine maker TPI Composites Inc., based in Scottsdale. According to the Phoenix Business Journal reporting, a down quarter caused the stock to fall sharply earlier this week. The trajectory is blamed in part on supply chain issues that have affected many businesses of late. However, CEO William Siwek told investors during a call, "We believe that these near-term challenges will eventually abate and that we are well-positioned... to capitalize on the long-term growth opportunity in the wind industry."(Phoenix Business Journal-subscribe)
- ICYMI: Among the dollars at work for Arizona due to the yet-to-be-signed $1 trillion infrastructure bill are "$225 million for bridge replacement and repairs with a focus on climate change mitigation," according to Patch Media reporting. The report also included a statement by Sen. Mark Kelly, who was instrumental in the bill's passing. "This is a big deal for Arizona," Kelly said. "This bipartisan infrastructure legislation will bring high-paying jobs to Arizona, fix our roads and bridges, expand high-speed internet access, upgrade our ports of entry in San Luis and Douglas, make Arizona more resilient to wildfires, and help us address this 20-year drought by improving our water infrastructure." The bill is likely to be signed into law by President Joe Biden this week. (Patch Media)
