🌱 Wrangling Rentals + Scottsdazzle + Refugee Thanksgiving

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Scottsdale.

(Patch Media)

Hey, people of Scottsdale! It's me again, Geoff Campbell, your host of the Scottsdale Daily. Happy Tuesday!

First, today's weather:

Today will be sunny and pleasantly warm, with a high of 77 and a low of 52. Enjoy!

Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:

  1. Four thousand homes are short-term rentals, according to a report by the Scottsdale Independent. Earlier this month, a joint letter sent to House Speaker Rusty Bowers asked for "reasonable and meaningful changes in state law." The City is attempting to put teeth into statues that manage the nearly 1 million tax revenue stream. In addition, the Council seeks to protect neighborhoods. The letter states, "Residents have consistently and repeatedly asked the city for help in mitigating the adverse impacts of short-term rentals, resulting in more than 1,800 calls for service to the Scottsdale Police Department." The City is striving to follow Paradise Valley's lead on managing the ever-evolving short-term rental landscape. (Scottsdale Independent)
  2. Scottsdazzle continues to entertain! Another Dazzle event worth considering is the Holiday Winemaker Dinner hosted by LDV Winery and Merkin Vineyards. According to the Scottsdazzle page, the evening will kick off with performances by jazz musician Rochelle Romeo. Chef Steve Zimmerman has put together three courses that pair perfectly with the wine, of course! According to the page, the 21+ event requires pre-registration for the limited tickets. (Scottsdazzle)
  3. Scottsdale resident Rabbi Shmuly Yanklowitz lived his values this Thanksgiving in a way that impacted some of our newest community members. According to ABC 15, Rabbi Yanklowitz and the Arizona Jews for Justice partnered with other groups to host Thanksgiving dinner in the Rabbi's home. Yanklowitz said he wanted "the chance to... more deeply connect with them... so that we can be advocates for them at large." (ABC15)
