2. Map shows 149 cities pushing back against Flock cameras (newsweek.com) — Tempe has permanently shut down its Flock automated license plate reader system and won't seek a replacement, citing growing privacy and oversight concerns despite police saying the cameras helped solve crimes. The move puts Tempe among at least 149 communities nationwide rethinking this surveillance technology, as lawmakers and civil-liberties groups debate how vehicle data should be collected, shared, and retained.
3. Tempe district investigating dance room changing area after voyeurism arrest (azfamily.com) — Parents in Tempe's Union High School District are being told an internal investigation is underway after a surveillance officer was arrested on voyeurism charges involving a camera-equipped dance room at Corona del Sol High School. District leaders say the room was never approved as a changing area and are reviewing how it came to be used that way and how security footage was handled.
4. Tempe e-bike rules change (yourvalley.net) — Tempe riders now face new rules for e-bikes and scooters, including speed limits of 10 mph on sidewalks, 15 mph in bike lanes, and 20 mph on roads for most classes. The ordinance also sets age and license requirements, mandates lights and speedometers, and strongly encourages helmets, especially for younger riders using motorized options around town.
