Tempe is making it easier to access free Narcan kits to reverse opioid overdoses (kjzz.org) — Tempe is expanding easy access to free Narcan kits so residents can quickly respond to opioid overdoses, which have been rising across Maricopa County. Kits are now available at the city's EnVision Center, all Tempe fire stations, and CPR classes, with state funding covering the cost so families, friends, and bystanders can be prepared to save a life.
3. WATCH: Man accused of trashing Tempe church, stealing PS5 from youth group (azfamily.com) — A Tempe church's student center suffered about $10,000 in damage after a late-night break-in where electronics, including a youth group PS5, were destroyed or stolen. Tempe police used surveillance and traffic cameras to identify a suspect, who was later arrested at his Mesa apartment, where officers reportedly found clothing and items tied to the crime.
4. Questions raised over ASU hockey training program, policies after player allegedly denied water (azfamily.com) — In Tempe, an ASU hockey player remains hospitalized and unresponsive after collapsing during an early-morning outdoor workout where an attorney says players were denied water if they missed time goals. Heat-illness experts and ASU's own policies raise concerns about withholding hydration, and the university says it is reviewing the workout, training protocols, and safety guidelines.
5. Tempe football coach arrested nearly 2 weeks after Mesa road rage shooting (azfamily.com) — Families at Corona del Sol High School in Tempe are learning that an off-campus assistant football coach has been arrested and fired after Mesa police say he admitted firing a gun during an August road-rage crash. School leaders stress the incident happened off campus and outside school hours, but the Tempe Union High School District has ended his employment.
