Police search for damaged Mazda after 16-year-old hit in Tempe crosswalk (azfamily.com) β Tempe police are asking for the community's help finding a dark gray 2014β2016 Mazda 3 sedan that seriously injured a 16-year-old girl in a hit-and-run near Baseline Road and Calle Los Cerros Drive. The car should have major front driver's-side damage and a missing bumper cover, and anyone with information is urged to contact Tempe police or text an anonymous tip.

Tempe councilmember proposes ban on automated license plate readers after city ends Flock contract (abc15.com) β Tempe residents are being asked for input on a proposed citywide ban on automated license plate readers, following the city's recent decision to end its contract with Flock Safety. The ordinance would restrict police use of the technology, require most existing data to be destroyed, and comes as the council also weighs a major Axon contract affecting Tempe's Real-Time Operations Center.

ASU student named Scholar of the Year for the national Sigma Nu Fraternity (statepress.com) β An Arizona State University student based on the Tempe campus has been named Sigma Nu's National Scholar of the Year, recognizing his 4.0 GPA, leadership roles and work in accounting-focused AI software. His achievements, including being a finalist for ASU Tempe Leader of the Year, are being used as a model for other students balancing academics and involvement.

Man arrested nearly 2 years after deadly chain-reaction crash on Tempe freeway (azfamily.com) β An arrest has been made nearly two years after a deadly chain-reaction crash on westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain near the Scottsdale Road off-ramp in Tempe. DPS investigators say the suspected Dodge Journey driver, now facing charges including leaving the scene of a fatal collision, allegedly fled after a high-speed rear-end crash that killed a Chandler woman and injured two others.
