• Serve ASU Students with Gather Valley of the Sun on October 3 — Grand Canyon Synod of the ELCA (gcsynod.org) — Tempe residents are invited to volunteer at Pitchfork Pantry's food and clothing distribution for Arizona State University students on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at First United Methodist Church on East University Drive. The morning shift runs from 8:15 to 10:15 a.m., with an optional brunch and devotional afterward, offering a hands-on way to support students facing basic-needs challenges.
   

• Tempe councilmembers, police chief at odds over proposed ALPR ban (abc15.com) — Tempe leaders are weighing a first-in-Arizona ban on police use of automated license plate reader cameras, pitting two councilmembers against colleagues and the police chief over crime-solving versus privacy. Residents packed the council meeting, most backing the ban, and more public sessions are set for Oct. 1 before a final vote on Oct. 15.
   

• Police: Naked man walking around Tempe Walmart with meth is arrested (fresnobee.com) — Tempe police arrested a 49-year-old man who admitted walking naked into the Walmart on West Elliot Road while carrying methamphetamine late Tuesday night. Officers found him across the street wearing only shoes, and he now faces charges including indecent exposure, disorderly conduct and possession of dangerous drugs, according to police.
