• Tempe police commander could lose certification after board vote (newsbreak.com) — A former Tempe police commander fired over alleged information leaks in a controversial arrest now faces possible loss of his Arizona peace officer certification after a state board vote. The same AZPOST meeting reviewed several other misconduct cases involving officers from Prescott, Graham County, Maricopa County, Gila River, Pinal County, and Phoenix, highlighting how statewide oversight can affect Tempe's own force.
• Sandy Hook Promise expands Arizona school safety efforts (yourvalley.net) — Tempe schools are leaning into Sandy Hook Promise programs by adding Safe Promise Clubs and youth specialists to help students spot warning signs and reach out for help. The statewide initiative, offered at no direct cost to districts, has already reached hundreds of thousands of Arizona students and is credited with preventing crises, including potential violence and youth suicides.
• Arizona State hockey players ask school to place coaches (thescore.com) — Arizona State University hockey players in Tempe are urging school leaders to place their coaches on leave while an independent investigation examines a teammate's collapse during an outdoor workout. Their anonymous letter alleges heat-safety policies weren't followed and questions ASU's initial review, prompting calls from state lawmakers for an outside probe into what happened and who was responsible.
