$1,500 Award For Info On Javelina Poacher

TUCSON, AZ — Arizona officials are offering a $1,500 award for information leading to the arrest in the illegal killing of a javelina in southwest Tucson, according to reports. The javelina was shot on June 17 and found dead near West Hammerhead Way and South 12th Avenue, according to the Arizona Daily Star.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department's Operation Game Thief program is offering the reward. “Poachers are criminals. They are thieves who steal wildlife from Arizona citizens,” said Raul Vega, of the department's Tucson office.

Vega said it seemed to be a crime of opportunity or somebody trying to rid a nuisance. "Either way, it's illegal," he said, according to the Star.

Tucson Local Media reported Operation Game Thief, focusing on citizen information, brought in $74,500 through 76 citations in 2017.
