3 Tucson Men Arrested In Record Heroin Bust In Illinois

Police in Orland Park, Illinois, said the arrest of three Tucson men took a record nearly three kilos off the street.

TUCSON, AZ — Three Tucson men were arrested in Illinois last weekend in what authorities called a record-setting drug bust that kept nearly three kilos of heroin off the streets.

Authorities in Orland Park, Illinois, said they were tipped off late on the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 24, that a well-known Arizona drug dealer was in the area, triggering an investigation that led to an arranged meeting, Orland Park Patch reported.

Arrested were 28-year-old Hector Acosta-Feliz, 26-year-old Johnnie Lee and 45-year-old Taurence Lopez, all of Tucson. Police said all three men were carrying a small amount of suspected black tar heroin with them, Acosta-Feliz had a bag of suspected crystal methamphetamine, and Lee and Lopez both left behind loaded handguns.

A search of their pickup revealed more drugs, another loaded handgun, a bag of what is believed to be crystal meth, a plastic-wrapped package of suspected heroin and a safe. After obtaining a search warrant, investigators found 2,302.5 grams of suspected heroin and 142.5 grams of suspected narcotic pills.

They face a variety of drug and weapons charges, including class X felony — the most serious felony offense in Illinois — for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
