6 Tucson Cooling Centers Open Through September In Expanded Heat Relief Effort
The city said six sites will open daily from noon to 4 p.m. from June 1 through Sept. 30, including holidays.
TUCSON, AZ — As summer temperatures climb, the city is opening the doors to six cooling centers starting Monday, giving residents a free place to escape the heat through the end of September.
The City of Tucson will operate the centers seven days a week from noon to 4 p.m., June 1 through Sept. 30, including holidays. That's a month longer than in previous years, with September added to the schedule for the first time.
"Extreme heat is one of the most serious public health risks our community faces," Mayor Regina Romero said. "I encourage anyone who needs a place to cool down to take advantage of these locations and to check on neighbors, friends, and family members during periods of high heat."
