Free School Supplies, Haircuts Available At Tucson Back-To-School Event

TUCSON, AZ — With Tucson Unified students heading back to class Aug. 6, families can get a jump on the school year at a free back-to-school giveaway planned for July 18 at El Rio Neighborhood Center.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon at the center, 1390 W. Speedway Blvd. It is free and open to all families. Attendees can pick up school supplies, get haircuts and connect with back-to-school community resources.

Pre-registration is required, and space is limited. Families can sign up by calling El Rio Neighborhood Center at 520-791-4683.

For families planning ahead, here are key dates from the Tucson Unified School District calendar:

• First day of school: Aug. 6.
• Labor Day: Sept. 7.
• Parent-teacher conferences for K-8: Sept. 16-18.
• High school conferences: Sept. 18.
• Fall break: Oct. 12-16.
• Thanksgiving break: Nov. 25-27.
• Winter break: Dec. 21-Jan. 1.
• Spring break: March 22-26.
• Graduation: May 24-25.
