TUCSON, AZ — Mount Lemmon customers are now under a Stage 3 water curtailment, with mandatory reductions in effect starting this week.
Under the Mount Lemmon Domestic Water Improvement District’s curtailment plan, residential water use is now limited to 2,400 gallons per month per residential unit, or about 80 gallons a day.
Customers are required to reduce normal water use, and those already using less than the monthly limit are still being asked to conserve as much as possible.
The district said customers can monitor daily and monthly usage through the Metron Portal. Outside watering restrictions remain in place.
Stage 3 is triggered when the district’s storage level or water source production falls between 25% and 50% of capacity for at least 24 consecutive hours, or when officials determine water supply issues could prevent the district from meeting expected demand over the next seven days.
The plan prohibits irrigation of lawns, trees, shrubs and other plant life, along with washing vehicles, dust control, outdoor cleaning, drip irrigation, misting systems, filling storage tanks, spas, fountains or ornamental pools, and using construction water. It also bans other water-intensive activity, tank filling and customer leaks.
The district said mandatory conservation could help avoid entering Stage 4. It also prohibits new service line additions and meter installations during Stage 3.
If customers do not comply after proper notice is given, the district may disconnect or lock off water service.
