TUCSON, AZ — Drivers who use the intersection of Park Avenue and Silverlake Road will need to plan for detours beginning Wednesday as a temporary closure gets underway for road paving.
Starting Wednesday, the west side of the intersection will close for about one day while crews pave the first layer of asphalt in the southbound lanes of Park Avenue.
During the closure, eastbound and westbound traffic on Silverlake Road will not be able to travel through the intersection. Westbound drivers will still be able to turn right onto northbound Park Avenue, but all other through traffic will need to use alternate routes.
If work stays on schedule, the intersection is expected to reopen by the end of the day Thursday.
The temporary closure is part of a larger roadway improvement project along Park Avenue. Southbound Park Avenue remains closed between 22nd Street and 36th Street while crews continue paving and other construction work.
Transportation officials are urging motorists to allow extra travel time, use alternate routes when possible and expect changing traffic patterns while construction continues.
The schedule could change because of weather or other unforeseen conditions, city officials said.
Drivers are also reminded to slow down, follow posted traffic control signs and watch for construction workers in and around the work zone.
