Tucson’s Catalina Pool Reopens After Unexpected Two-Week Closure

TUCSON, AZ — After a two-week closure, Catalina Pool is back open.

The popular Tucson pool reopened Tuesday after crews drained, cleaned and refilled the facility following an incident in which a glass bottle shattered in the water during operating hours.

City officials closed the pool immediately after the incident, saying broken glass in the water required the entire pool to be drained, thoroughly cleaned, refilled and chemically balanced before it could safely reopen.

"Thank you for your patience and understanding while our team completed the necessary cleaning and water balancing to ensure the pool was safe for everyone," the city said in announcing the reopening.

Located on the Catalina High School campus, Catalina Pool features a nine-lane, 25-yard by 25-meter competitive pool, a diving bay with 1- and 3-meter diving boards, depths ranging from 4 to 13.5 feet, and nearby shaded seating and grassy areas.

The pool offers lap swimming, recreational swim and swim lessons.

With the reopening, Catalina Pool has resumed its regular schedule:

• Tuesday-Thursday: Lap swim from 6 to 8 a.m., 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m.
• Friday: Lap swim from 6 to 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Saturday: Lap swim and recreational swim from noon to 4 p.m.
• Sunday and Monday: Closed.

The pool is located on the Catalina High School campus and is now open for its normal operations.
