Today's riddle: What did the tree say when Spring arrived? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. 4th Ave. merchants say they're hindered by Tucson parking meter rates, lack of spots (tucsonsentinel.com) — Tucson's 4th Avenue merchants say higher parking meter rates, broken meters and strict time limits are driving away customers and cutting into revenue. With hundreds of meters citywide out of service and stepped-up enforcement, business owners argue Park Tucson's policies feel predatory, while city officials insist the changes fund maintenance and need more time to evaluate.
2. Tucson Seminoles suspended by youth football conference (kold.com) — Tucson families with kids in the Tucson Seminoles youth football and cheer program are suddenly scrambling after the Sonoran Desert American Youth Football Conference suspended the organization for rule violations. Conference leaders cite problems with certification, leadership and game-day safety, and have granted widespread release requests so players can join other Tucson-area teams while 13 News continues investigating.
3. Police cadet murder suspect in court on unrelated charge (kgun9.com) — Tucson readers following the killing of Police Cadet Carlos Ramirez should know one of the two men charged was back in court Thursday on an unrelated car theft and aggravated assault case. Both suspects remain in custody under special handling, and authorities allege the pair were acting as a drug rip crew that mistakenly targeted Ramirez's home.
4. TPD recruit honored at law enforcement graduation (kgun9.com) — Tucson's latest law enforcement academy graduation honored fallen TPD recruit Carlos Ramirez, who was killed in a recent home invasion before he could receive his badge. Local leaders, including the police chief and mayor, praised his character as 29 recruits from several Southern Arizona agencies graduated, while TPD continues actively recruiting new officers through August 31, 2026.
