Brother Faces Murder Charge After Fatal Fight In Tucson

Investigators said a man found dead near South Stone Avenue had been in a fight with his brother before his death.

TUCSON, AZ — A Tucson man is charged with second-degree murder after his older brother was found dead early Sunday morning on South Stone Avenue.

Firefighters arrived around 5:30 a.m. June 8 to find a man dead in the 600 block of South Stone Avenue. He had visible signs of trauma. Police homicide detectives took over the scene and began piecing together what happened.

The victim was identified as 37-year-old Martin Joe Rosales.

Witnesses and evidence pointed investigators toward someone who had fought with him shortly before his death. By that afternoon, police tracked the suspect to a motel in South Tucson and took him into custody.

The suspect, Gabriel Joseph Rosales, 35, turned out to be the victim's younger brother. After speaking with detectives, he was charged with second-degree murder and jailed on a $1 million bond.

The case is one of 17 homicides in Tucson so far this year, down from 27 at the same point in 2025.

The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
