Reading well by third grade is one of the strongest predictors of a child’s future success—in school, in the workplace, and in life. When children fall behind in reading early on, it becomes much harder for them to catch up. Pima County's Percent of Arizona 3rd grade students who scored Proficient or Highly Proficient on the Arizona Academic Standards Assessment (AASA) stands at 37.4%.
