Man Killed In Wednesday Shooting On Tucson's South Side

Juan Carlos Velderrain has been identified by police as the victim in a shooting on Tucson's south side Wednesday night, Tucson police said.

TUCSON, AZ -- Police identified a man who was killed in a shooting Wednesday night near West Valencia and South Midvale Park roads on Tucson's south side, Tucson police said.

Juan Carlos Velderrain, 32, died at the scene of the shooting, which occurred just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to police.

Witnesses told police that an unidentified male bystander pulled out a gun and shot Velderrain after a confrontation about Velderrain assaulting his girlfriend, police said. The girlfriend suffered minor injuries, police said.

No arrests were made, and any charges against the bystander are pending the results of a police investigation, the police said.

The girlfriend was able to get away from Velderrain and got into the bystander's sedan before the shooting, according to police.
