Pima County Public Libraries To Open With Limited Services

When most Pima County public libraries reopen in a few days, library officials stressed that it will not be business as usual.

PIMA COUNTY, AZ—Most public libraries in Pima County are scheduled to reopen with limited services starting Monday at 10 a.m. The exceptions are Dusenberry-River Library and El Rio Library. According to library officials, those two libraries will reopen at a later date.

When most libraries do reopen in a few days, library officials stressed that it will not be business as usual. For the protection of the public and staff, they are putting in some parameters, including:

  • Setting up services to be as contactless as possible.
  • Maintaining six feet of physical distance from each other.
  • Wearing cloth face coverings and gloves.
  • Following cleaning and disinfecting protocols put out by the CDC and OSHA.
  • All buildings were thoroughly disinfected while we were closed.

When guests arrive to the library, their temperature will be taken before they can enter the building, library officials said. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher will be asked to come back at a later time. Guests will also be expected to wear a cloth face covering. For those who don't have one, library officials said one will be provided. Hand sanitizing stations will also be available throughout each county library.

For libraries reopening May 18, hours of operation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

"Your visit will be short, as we must keep building capacity low. We look forward to a future date when you can hang out in the Library, but right now, please plan to come and go quickly," library officials said in an online statement.
