Pima Sherif Mark Napier Backs Off Pay Change Proposal

Sheriff Napier''s plan to change the way that pay is determined was met by an uproar from the unions representing department workers.

TUCSON, AZ – Pima County Sheriff Mark Napier is backing off his effort to change the way that pay is determined. He had demanded that the five unions representing workers get on board with his proposals last week.

All had balked, saying that Napier's proposal was never put in writing, left many questioned, and opened doors to cronyism.

On Wednesday morning, he said that he was done with the attempt.

The unions are now going to work with the Law Enforcement Merit System Council, which actually oversees how pay is set, to try to fix the system, which most agree is in need of repair.
