Rabies-Positive Coatimundi Killed After Biting Woman, Dog
The woman and dog were attacked near the Coronado National Memorial over the weekend, Arizona Game and Fish officials said.
TUCSON, AZ—A coatimundi that attacked a woman and her dog over the weekend has tested positive for rabies, according to the Arizona Game & Fish Department.
The woman and dog were attacked near the Coronado National Memorial, the agency said.
Following the attack, officials said the coatimundi was put down and a rabies test was performed.

The woman and dog were treated for their injuries.
Common carriers of rabies are generally foxes, bats and skunks. They, however, can spread rabies to other wildlife, gaming officials said.

"Seek medical attention immediately if bitten by any. Call 623-236-7201," Arizona Game & Fish officials said.
The coatimundi, or coati, is a member of the raccoon family found from Arizona to South America, according to the National Park Service.
