Rep. Raul Grijalva Arrested At Trump Tower DACA Protest

The representative was one of several people arrested protesting the president's plan to end the DACA program.

Tucson Representative Raul Grijalva was among those arrested Tuesday afternoon protesting President Trump's plan to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. The protest - outside of Trump Tower in New York - came just hours before the president addressed the United Nations.

Grijalva - an eight term representative - was one of several elected officials arrested including representatives Adriano Espaillat from New York and Luis Gutierrez from Illinois.

The three are calling on Trump to work with Congress to place a clean DREAM act, which would offer protections for DACA recipients.

"As Trump visits New York to deliver an address at the United Nations, the group will demand that he works with Congress to pass a clean DREAM Act that includes a path to citizenship for immigrant youth, without additional funding for the insecurity that Trump’s immigration agencies are creating at the border," rally organizers said in a press release.

Grijalva tweeted from the event.
