Tucson Border Agents Rescue Eleven From Desert

It was a busy weekend for agents from the Border Patrol's Ajo Station in the Tucson sector as they responded to five 9-1-1 calls for people in distress. The response resulted in the rescue of eight undocumented immigrants trying to make their away across the desert.

It started on Saturday with three separate 9-1-1 calls that resulted in the rescue of six men - four Mexican nationals and two from El Salvador.

Border officials say that most were just lost and tired while a few said they had gone without food and water for three days. (Subscribe to local news alerts on Patch)

Then on Sunday there were two calls concerning a total of five men: two Mexican nationals and three from El Salvador.

That evening, one of three El Salvadorans walked back to Mexico and reported to a humanitarian group that two others were lost in the desert on the U.S. side of the border.

The information was relayed to the Ajo Station and agents successfully located both individuals.

All subjects were apprehended for immigration violations and are being processed in accordance with Tucson Sector guidelines, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection
