Tucson Coronavirus: Mayor Wants Stay-At-Home Order Extended
"The reality is that we have not met criteria established by the CDC to begin a phased reopening," Tucson Mayor Regina Romero said.
TUCSON, AZ—Tucson Mayor Regina Romero doesn't believe the state is ready to reopen soon and wants Gov. Doug Ducey to extend the state's stay-at-home order before it expires this week.
"Extending Doug Ducye's executive order would allow us to accumulate more data from the 'testing blitz' that is planned in order to make a more informed, data-driven decision," she said in a tweet.
The governor's current stay-at-home order officially ends April 30. According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention, before a community reopens, it should experience a decrease in cases for 14 straight days. Romero says that hasn't happened in her city.

"The reality is that we have not met criteria established by the CDC to begin a phased reopening. Arizona also severely lacks widespread testing, meaning we cannot adequately track and mitigate the spread of the virus," she said.
Romero did tell KOLD-TV that she would support opening up restaurants in another 15 days if it can be proven that it’s safe for customers.
