Tucson Schools To Get New Security Upgrades
Tucson school security improvements include have keyless entry systems, better fences, security cameras and more.

TUCSON, AZ — The Tucson Unified School District is set to make some security upgrades over the summer, according to Tucson News Now. The upgrades come amid a wave of attention over school shootings throughout the country.
The TUSD board approved keyless entry systems in the spring, and nearly 40 schools will see those. "That's a big victory and a big testament to this board's dedication to keeping kids and employees safe," TUSD Superintendent Gabriel Trujillo said, according to Tucson News Now.
Paid for by funds the school district has earned from renting and leasing facilities, the improvements include better fences and security cameras in schools prone to vandalism.

Tucson News Now reports Trujillo wants to increase the frequency of lockdown drills, and would have to negotiate with the Tucson Education Association, whose agreement with the District limits them to twice annually.
The installations of keyless entry systems are expected to be completed by Aug. 1.
