Tucson Zoo Wants Public's Input On Reopening

​As Reid Park Zoo in Tucson plans for an eventual reopening​, management wants to hear from guests.

TUCSON, AZ—As Reid Park Zoo in Tucson plans for an eventual reopening, management wants to hear from guests. On Wednesday, zoo officials launched an online survey to find out what guests would like done to make them feel safe when they are once again allowed to revisit the zoo.

"Reid Park Zoo is grateful for your support during our temporary closure," zoo officials said in an online message. "As we continue to plan for reopening, we remain diligent is in our efforts to ensure the safety of our Reid Park Zoo staff, our visitors, and the animals. We want your feedback!"

The survey includes 23 multiple choice questions, some of which are:

  • If stay-at-home order and travel restrictions are lifted and we reopen, how likely are you to visit Reid Park Zoo?
  • Would you visit the zoo if certain areas and activities are closed due to social distancing? (Ex: giraffe feedings, carousel ride, keeper chats and conservation learning center)
  • As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, are you unemployed?
  • How important are each of the following for you to feel comfortable visiting the zoo? (Ex: Provide hand sanitizer, provide gloves, limit the number of people in the zoo one at a time, enforce 6-foot social distancing, require zoo staff to wear masks, etc)

As a public health precaution to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19, Reid Park Zoo has been closed to the public since mid-March. Zoo operations staff, including animal care teams, have continued working as scheduled to provide vital care to the zoo's animals.
