TUCSON, AZ — Tucson's newest dog park is officially open, giving local pups a new place to run, play and socialize. The new Armory Park Dog Park opened this week at Armory Park, 222 S. Fifth Ave., and city officials are encouraging residents to bring their four-legged companions to check it out. While the park is ready for visitors, the official grand opening celebration will have to wait a few more days. The park's "Yappy Hour" celebration, originally planned for July 31, has been rescheduled to Saturday, Aug. 8, from 9 to 10 a.m. because of Tucson's extreme summer heat. "As much as we love a good paw-ty, it's just too doggone hot for our furry friends," organizers said in announcing the change. "To keep every pup safe and comfortable, we're moving Yappy Hour to a cooler morning." The celebration will still feature free ice cream treats from BARK 'N BERRY, pup cups, photo opportunities and plenty of opportunities for dogs — and their owners — to meet fellow members of Tucson's pet-loving community. In announcing the opening, organizers invited residents to start using the park immediately. "The Armory Park Dog Park is officially open today, so don't wait to unleash the fun," the city said. "Come sniff out Tucson's newest dog park and let the zoomies begin." Officials thanked pet owners for their patience and said they're looking forward to celebrating the park's opening once temperatures are a little more dog-friendly.
