The Wall That Heals Arrives In Tucson: What You Need To Know

The to-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial win Oro Valley's Riverfront Park through Sunday. It is open 24/7 for visitors.

ORO VALLEY, AZ – It's one of the most powerful memorials in the country. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. is a tribute to the 58,000 United States troops who were killed in Vietnam.

Not everyone can get to D.C., however.

That's why the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund works on bringing a replica of the wall to people. It is 375-feet long and 7.5-feet high at its highest point and been displayed in more than 600 communities around the country since it was introduced in 1996.

For the next three days it will be displayed at Riverfront Park in Oro Valley. It will be open for visitors 24/7.

Because of the expected high volume of visitors, Lambert Lane will be closed to traffic and available only for parking. The busiest time is expected to be in the late afternoon, which could force people to park further away and walk more to get to the exhibit.

In a change from previous exhibitions, visitors will be allowed to name rubbings of the names of individual service members on the wall.

There will also be a mobile education center that has photo displays of service members from the area whose names are on the wall, a collection of items left at the wall in D.C., video displays that teach the history of the wall, and a chronological overview of the wall.
